Who we are

KA/TEN is the website (katen.golf) and app our group of friends uses to keep the score of our Ryder Cup-style golf tournament. It is run by the tournament organisers, not by a company. We collect only what the tournament needs, we don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.

What we store

  • Your account: your name and email address, and your password stored as a secure hash (never in plain text). If you turn them on, also your two-factor authentication settings and passkeys.
  • Sign in with Apple or Google: the user id Apple or Google gives us for you, and the name and email address they share. With Apple you can choose to share a private relay email address instead of your own.
  • Your player profile: your name, nicknames, profile and team photos, handicap index and tee (men's or women's). Organisers create and edit player profiles and link them to accounts.
  • Golf results: the scores entered for each hole, match results, team lineups and draft picks, and which account finished a match or made a pick.
  • Your devices: when you sign in to the app we store a sign-in token named after your device (for example "Egill's iPhone"). If you allow notifications, we store your device's push token.
  • Website sessions: when you sign in on the website, a cookie keeps you signed in, and the server records the IP address and browser of that session. We also use IP addresses to limit repeated sign-in attempts.

What is public

The scoreboard, matches, teams, draft and player pages are public, so anyone can see player names, nicknames, photos, handicap indexes, scores and results. Your email address, account and devices are never shown publicly.

How we use it

  • To sign you in and keep your account secure.
  • To work out match results, standings, handicap strokes and player statistics.
  • To send push notifications about the tournament, such as birdies and finished matches. You can turn these off in the app or in your phone's settings.
  • To send emails you ask for, such as a link to reset your password.

Services we rely on

  • Apple and Google handle Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. We only check the sign-in they send us; we don't send them your data.
  • Expo delivers push notifications. It receives your device's push token and the text of each notification, and passes them to Apple or Google to show on your phone.
  • Our hosting and email providers run the server that stores the data and send our emails.

How long we keep it

We keep your account until you delete it. Tournament results are kept as the history of the tournament, because they are also the other players' results.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Account and choose Delete account. On the website, go to Settings, then Profile, then Delete account. This deletes your account, sign-in tokens, push tokens and passkeys straight away. Your player profile and results stay in the tournament history, no longer linked to an account.

If you also want your player profile, photos or nicknames removed or changed, contact us.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. If you live in Iceland or the EEA, you can also complain to your data protection authority (in Iceland, Persónuvernd).

Children

KA/TEN is made for the adult members of our golf group and is not meant for children under 13.
